Human genetics or medical genetics is an interdisciplinary field, which extends into practically all fields of medicine. Therefore, there can be many varying reasons for an appointment to a human genetics consultation. This includes both common diseases such as cancer or miscarriages, as well as rare inherited syndromes.
The importance of medical genetics lies not only in the diagnosis of genetic diseases, but also in explaining genetic findings and their clinical relevance to patients, their families and physicians of other specialities. It is also increasingly important for targeted, optimised early detection and therapy. In this sense, cooperation with other specialist disciplines is essential. We are firmly integrated into the clinical boards of various disciplines and work closely with radiotherapy as well as with the Stuttgart Diakonie Clinic and other regional hospitals, centres and private doctors.
